Think dads are hard to plan for? Whatever your dad is into, the perfect holiday exists to help him have the time of his life. Remember, Fathers day is June 17th, 2018. What dad wouldn’t want to go on an amazing vacation? Whether he is into sports, history or adventure, the right vacation is out there.
Drinking
A beer after a long day at the office is great for your hard-working dad, but what about a beer-based vacation? Oktoberfest, begins September 22 and runs through October 7th in Munich, features liter-sized steins of local brew, plates of sausages and roasted chickens, and lots of live music and fun. Find an Airbnb close to the metro and be sure to book early to give dad the time of his life.
Eating
Is your dad a foodie or even just enjoy eating? Take him to a tasty food festival that focuses on local specialties. The International Bar-B-Que Festival in Owensboro, Kentucky is a top favorite in the US and will be sure to be a hit with any meat-loving dad. For something more exotic, check out the dumpling festival in Hong Kong or the Onion Market in Switzerland.
Sports
If your dad is into sports (and whose isn’t?) take him for a long weekend to see a big out-of-state game of his favorite team. The game will be the highlight of the trip, but he’ll also get to enjoy local bars and restaurants and perhaps a fun tailgate party in the lot before the game. For baseball, our favorites include Wrigley Field in Chicago, Fenway Park in Boston, Safeco Field in Seattle and Coors Field in Denver. For Football, you can’t beat Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City (amazing tailgating and BBQ), Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and the iconic Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
Does your dad like golf? We highly recommend Pinehurst, North Carolina as an amazing golf destination. Pinehurst is known as the “Cradle of American Golf”. Pinehurst has a population of less than 15,000 and is home to nothing else but Pinehurst. Since the first cottages were built in 1895, Pinehurst has expanded and grown into one of the most recognized golf courses in the world.
Outdoors
A nature-loving dad will always appreciate a good camping trip. Upgrade the camping to a full-blown wilderness tour and really show dad the great outdoors. A tour of Mongolia, including the Gobi Desert and Orkhon Valley region, can be easily arranged with a number of local tour operators for as little as $40 per person per day. This even includes activities like hiking, camel-riding, and seeing the most amazing star-filled night sky in the world.
Worry-Free
It could be argued that the ideal vacation for dad would be one where he doesn’t have to lift a finger. A cruise is the perfect option for a worry-free trip. Instead of the more popular Caribbean cruises, opt instead for a transatlantic journey. These cruises tend to be more adult-friendly, with an art gallery onboard, 5 course gourmet lunches and dinners, daily lectures on interesting topics, and a variety of drinking facilities. Dad will have a great time relaxing in the cigar lounge with a glass of whiskey or playing pub trivia games with a cold beer. A hearty breakfast buffet is guaranteed to beat any hangover from the festivities of the night before.
Adventure
If dad is looking for more excitement and less relaxation, consider making the trip to riding a motorcycle through the mountains of Vietnam. In Hanoi, motorbikes can be rented from tour agents and be driven the northern loop then down south to the Mekong area and dropped off in Ho Chi Minh City. Go with a guide for convenience and help finding accommodation and food or do it yourself to up the ante on adventure. This trip is perfect for the adrenaline-junky in every father.
Educational
History or architecture buffs may prefer a city to wilderness. Skip cliché destinations like Rome or Paris in exchange for lesser-known destinations. A trip to the Baltic capitals of Vilnius (Lithuania), Riga (Latvia), and Tallinn (Estonia) will reveal incredible history and building construction from medieval times to World War Two. The cities are not yet tourist hotspots so there is a much calmer atmosphere to enjoy while learning about the locale. In the US, who can beat Washington DC. You can easily fill up a week of historic museums, statues and tours.
So whether your dad is an adventure seeker, a fisherman, a golfer or history buff, there is a perfect vacation out there for him. You can send him on a wonderful vacation, or better yet, go with him. Make some wonderful new memories together.
