Bora Bora, the most famous Tahitian island, is a destination that everyone should hope to see for themselves at least once in their lifetime. The turquoise, clear water makes for incredibly beautiful scuba diving. Between the water and the soft, powdery sand, Bora Bora is one of the world’s most popular exotic locales. If you ever get a chance to visit Bora Bora, you owe it to yourself to travel there like an expert. I will be going here for my first time next month. I can’t wait. Here are a few things that I am going to check out when I get there and will report back if they are as amazing as they sound. I feel very lucky to be visiting this Tahitian Island.

Swim with sharks and stingrays

If you’re in Bora Bora, you’re likely there to hang out in the water and at the beach. And what’s more exciting than swimming with and feeding animals like sharks and stingrays? Many different tour companies offer shark and stingray excursions and are a great way to explore the beautiful ocean floor and see a side of the island that many people say is the best part. Traveling with kids? Many of the tours are family friendly and incredibly safe.

Matira Beach

Because it is one of the island’s only beaches accessible to the public, Matira Beach is a very popular tourist destination. Featuring the island’s trademark white sand and crystal clear water, visitors can also shop and eat when they are done swimming. If you stay at the beach the whole day, be sure to check out the sunsets – I’ve been told that they’re some of the best on the entire island.

4×4 Adventures

Don’t feel like you have to spend every moment on the beach if you are in Bora Bora. 4×4 vehicle excursions are available for those who want to travel inland a bit and see what else the island has to offer besides beautiful beaches and water. There are a bunch of companies that offer tours depending on what you want to see according to your budget.

Eat Poisson Cru

Poisson Cru, also known as ‘Ota ika, is the national dish of Tahiti, and Bora Bora features some of the best versions of it around. The raw tuna dish, packed with flavors like coconut milk and lime, can be found at many restaurants in Bora Bora. This is similar to cerviche. I am excited to try this local flavor.

Coral Gardens

It’s almost impossible to describe the beauty of Bora Bora’s Coral Gardens without seeing it for yourself, but imagine the most colorful and fish-packed ocean scene you’ve ever seen. If you go, be careful around the coral and make sure that you don’t step on or break the beautiful, natural structures. I am very excited to see this.

Shop & relax in Vaitape

Vaitape is Bora Bora’s most popular town and features cute shops and delicious, local restaurants. The quaint town is a fantastic place to grab a coffee, read a book and relax. Some of the best people-and-boat watching on the island can be done at a cafe in Vaitape. I’ll have to check out this little town.

Considered to be one of the most beautiful islands in the world, Bora Bora immediately conjures images of a romantic tropical paradise set in ultimate luxury. Known as the “Romantic Island’ Bora Bora is the destination that’s on every couple’s wish list. But there’s lots more to this tiny island than just fancy overwater bungalows. With lush covered peaks rising sharply out of a massive lagoon that’s radiating in the brightest shades of blue – Bora Bora is the stuff dreams are made of. I can’t tell you how excited I am to visit Bora Bora. I do hope it is all I’ve read and heard about. I am excited to report back after this Bucket List vacation.
