The amazing Eisenhower Hotel is located on the top floors of the Culzean Castle which is located on the Ayrshire Coast of Scotland only about 45 miles south of Glasgow. With only a few rooms available it feels like you have the castle to yourself. After check in you can roam the gorgeous flower gardens, explore the lush forests, take a tour of the grounds and the castle, and for me, it was a photographer’s playground, taking pictures of the castle, the beautiful suites, the secret gardens and walking on the rocky shore at low tide to get great shots of the castle perched high on the cliff, as well as beautiful sunset pictures on the water; a true delight.
The Eisenhower Hotel is completely different to any other experience, in that once you enter the castle, you are taken up to the Eisenhower Balcony on the top floor in an original 1920’s lift, being transported into a different world of luxury. The attention that you receive from the staff is incredible, and the Drawing Room and Dining Room are a joy to spend time in with the excellent views.
The Culzean Castle is on the Ayrshire Coast of Scotland. It was once home to the Marquess of Ailsa, the chief of Clan Kennedy, but is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. The castle lies within the Culzean Country Park and is now open to the public. In 1945, the Kennedy family gave the castle and its grounds to the National Trust of Scotland to avoid inheritance tax. They also stipulated that an apartment at the top of the castle be given to General of the Army, Dwight D. Eisenhower in thanks for his role as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during WWII. The General visited the Castle in 1946 and stayed there many times, including once while President of the United States.
You can request to stay in the Eisenhower Suite, which is like stepping back in time of true luxury. Within the Eisenhower Suite you have a very large bedroom, a Dressing Room, a sitting room and a very large beautiful bathroom. The views out of this apartment are truly stunning. There are also five other very impressive suites at the hotel to choose from.
I was very impressed. We were treated like Royalty. The staff is genuinely knowledgeable about the Culzean Castle, super friendly and helpful; a true joy to be around.
